Favorite Web Personality #1 - German Chocolate Cake Man

Inspired by my recent ponderings about personal online branding, online personalities, and what the Internet says about each of us - I’ve decided to start highlighting the interesting personalities I run across as I maneuver (or, if you are Canadian, English or French: manoeuvre) through the web world…

Some guidelines for my choices:

1. By interesting I mean funny, smart, innovative, talented, original, or any combination of those. Racists, Misogynists, and Homophobes not included. You can be offensive and interesting at the same time, but I’m not going to promote you.

2. If you are already all over Digg, Reddit or TV you probably won’t be selected. Sorry but I have a short attention span and if you are already well-known I am probably already bored.

That’s all I can think of for now, I will probably add more later.

#1. German Chocolate Cake Man

Platform: myspace

Who he/she is:

A 50 year old guy from Panama City, Alabama named Jamie who will follow his grandmother’s recipe and bake you a German Chocolate Cake for $75. But wait! Did we mention the shipping is free? Here is the photo from his site:

German Chocolate Cake, Man!

German Chocolate Cake, Man!

I skimmed through his comments but couldn’t find any feedback on the cake from previous customers. If I had $75 I would definitely order one just to try it out and see if he really sent one. I just noticed his last login was Sept 2007, but friends are still leaving comments as recent as September 2008. I smell a mystery here… where is he now? Has he opened up his own bakery? Friends seem to be leaving lots of inspirational bible quotes on his comments - I hope this doesn’t mean he’s fallen on hard times. Perhaps they just don’t approve of the subject material of his wife’s poems…

Best Quote from site:

“I’m Married To Sistah J of Spicy Poems she runs my business for me while I do the baking.”

Go see for yourself: German Chocolate Cake Man The link to spicypoems.com on his site, disappointingly, does not work…

5 reasons why I chose him:

He’s entrepreneurial (yep, that’s a word I just checked), unique, he loves to bake, his wife writes spicy poems, and his story intrigues me.

Where ever he is now, I wish him success.
