Who He Is:
“a writer from the Highlands of Scotland, currently writing books for children” (his website)
Barry Hutchison has written several adventure novels for children and is now working on a horror series for children called Invisible Fiends, which will be published by HarperCollins.
Best Quote Online:
“I am thirty-one years old - but on a good day could easily pass for mid-forties.” (website, about me page)
5 Reasons Why I Chose Him:
1. His upcoming book series is described “as Harry Potter meets Nightmare on Elm Street, Invisible Fiends is a fantastically original, darkly funny and shiver-inducing new horror series about what happens when 12-year-old Kyle’s imaginary friend from childhood comes back to life…with a vengeance!” (HarperCollins press release, taken from author’s website).
2. His blog is extremely interesting if you are wondering how the writing/publishing process works - you get to follow along.
3. He’s a writer, a parent, and he’s funny so obviously we have a lot of common (well I think so anyways). Read his post about Snowgor, Destroyer of Worlds and tell me you’re not charmed by his writing.
4. He is also part of the website Trapped By Monsters which is originally how he caught my attention. This website was running a comment story where people took turns leaving 3 word comments to create a collaborative story. Kind of like StoryMash for the extremely attention deficit.
5. ZOMBIES! If I’m not mistaken he is also a filmmaker who made a trilogy of zombie movies in the highlands of Scotland. You can read about this project at netribution.co.uk and decide for yourself. Perhaps this is just another Barry Hutchison who lives in the highlands of Scotland and is interested in the macabre… Regardless if you are a fan of low budget film production AND zombie movies (I certainly am!) then it’s a good read.
Just in case I’m wrong about my #5 reason, I’ll add that one of his books is called “Night of the Living Ted” which is pretty awesome.

Oooh! Oooh! That’s me!
Thanks very much. I’m all delighted an’ that. And yes, Zombie Love Stories was me. There are other things I have done I could tell you about, but they make me seem weird and vaguely frightening, so I’ll refrain.
For now.
Thanks so much for this. It has made at least this day, and probably tomorrow, too.
Oh, and incidentally, I wasn’t googling myself or that - my blog told me I had a new incoming link, so I came and checked it out.
Honest.
No, really…
Barry Hutchison’s last blog post..Invisible Fiends proof copies
Hmmmm how about a story where you google yourself and then you read something that hasn’t even happened yet? Probably already done… Glad you liked the post and looking forward to your books!
That’s a fantastic idea. Google Clairvoyant Beta. Genius.
‘Tis a well-deserved recommendation. Mind, he’s not all sunshine and puppies; he has his dark side. Ask him about the Goldschlager during the filming of Zombie Love Stories…
Tommy Donbavand’s last blog post..Screen Street!
What, you mean that time you spectacularly vomited after a night in the pub and left little flecks of gold all over the street? I’d best not mention that.
Aargh, too late.
Well, everyone loves a good Zombie Love Story.
Right?
