In March I wrote about how “(I Should Be Napping, But Instead…) I’m running my butt off“. Such grand plans for how I was going to work out three times a week on top of caring for my 2 kids, working, and playing bass in a band. In the week before the 10km SunRun (which was yesterday), I coughed my way through a horrible chest cold, and came to terms with the likelihood that I would not beat my former time as planned.
This year’s SunRun was scheduled for Mother’s Day. I ran the Sun Run, walked home, showered, nursed my baby girl, cleaned the house, and then welcomed my in-laws (who arrived for their 3 week visit).
Today I am limping. I feel like my leg muscles have seized up. It’s hard to go up and down the stairs (which I have to do 50 times a day at least). I overdid it and I was still 10 minutes slower than last time. Surprise, surprise, running regularly really does make a difference (or at least exercising regularly). So, I feel a little lame on two counts: lame because I used the stroller to hold me up on the way to the playground and back this morning; and lame because I feel like I set my running goals a bit high for this year!
Motherhood, like running, is truly a test of endurance. I look forward to more challenges in both of these areas of my life…
Happy Mother’s Day!
(A day late, but hey, I’ve been busy…)
