I just came across notes I had taken during my recent participation in the 3 Day Novel Contest and found the following poems. Obviously, I was sleep-deprived if I was scribbling verse into my notebook rather than writing my book. Here they are:
I waged a war on adverbs and eradicated almost all of them, brutally and swiftly.
And, then, barely legible, I’ve scrawled:
Adverbs, adverbs are not your friend.
Remove them all, at the end.
(Notice a common theme here? For some reason I really had it out for adverbs during the little time I had to edit my writing…)
Really? Actually? Probably... What to do…
These words need to go? Yes, they do!
I also had a count of how many times I used certain words - I used very 81 times in 113 pages. That’s very excessive.
