It’s a bleak day outside and I’m tired after a late night of rehearsing for my Mink Valley gig on Saturday at the Nearly Famous Music Festival (Media Club - Vancouver BC 10PM!). My daughter is napping (I should be napping too, a common theme to my life…). I was working when the dog started barking at the mailman. Grrrrr. Luckily he didn’t wake my little girl up… and, even better, my tribute to the Cure arrived in the mail today!
I couldn’t resist, I advance-ordered this CD from American Laundromat Records.
I’m pretty much a quivering crushy pile of goo when it comes to anything related to Dean Wareham (formerly of Galaxie 500 and Luna) and his partner in crime, Britta Phillips (bass playing goddess, formerly the singing voice of Jem and Billy Swan in one of my guilty movie pleasures, Satisfaction (1988). These two rock n roll romantics have made some beautiful music together.
The last time I was this excited was when my autographed copy of Dean Wareham’s book ‘Black Postcards’ arrived in the mail (no I don’t know him and I’m certainly not well-connected, I just bought it off of their website www.deanandbritta.com), because I’m a weirdo - I can’t help myself.
Albums by Dean and Britta:
Combine that with my love of the Cure and the fact that Dean and Britta cover ‘Friday I’m in Love’ on the album (a song performed during me and my husband’s wedding ceremony) and there is no wonder I advanced ordered it.
Okay I’ll stop babbling about Dean and Britta- did I also mention that the album also features songs by some of my other favorites?
Frank Black (listed as his Pixie’s alter ego, Black Francis, as a member of the band Grand Duchy)
You can preview the tracks by launching American Laundromat’s Radio Player.
If you order the CD directly from them they will ship it right away. Otherwise, the official release date is January 27, 2009.
I’m trying to not think about the fact that they have a Kim Deal tribute coming out called Gigantic…

Hey! This is a fine lookin’ blog. I’m here via your comment to me regarding sleep deprivation and trashed lungs.
I love, love, love the Çure! I used to have such a crush on Robert Smith. Now, not so much …. In ‘86 I was front row at a Cure concert in the Detroit area. Talk about “just like heaven.” I was floating on air for days.
