Another PuppetWatch update, as reported by PuppetWatch reporter Tan YaYa:
In an unexpected press release today, Mother Goose announces that she has dropped her lawsuit against Alex Trebek.
Trebek’s lawyer stated, “Ms. Goose’s copyright infringement suit was riding on the coat tails of the recent Satriani/Coldplay suit.”
Mother Goose claimed that Trebek stole her “I’m a little teapot” tune and used it as the theme for his wildly popular “Jeopardy” TV gameshow. She cited the last refrain, “Tip me over and pour me out” as identical to the end of the Jeopardy theme song.
Merv Griffin Confession
Trebek’s lawyer continued, “We met with Ms. Goose earlier today and explained to her that Merv Griffin was actually the Jeopardy theme song composer and that he had already confessed to using the teapot song as his inspiration. We also explained that, being a fictional character, she was unable to file suits in the real world.”
On a more personal note, Tan YaYa said she was quite upset by the fact that Mother Goose was unavailable for comment (not being real and all) and that she had been scooped by Wikipedia.
Another career low for a reporter recently discredited by unfounded rumors that she was spottedĀ dropping her inlaws off at a Wallymart despite her harsh study of its dismal effects on a local neighborhood, Sesame Street. (The article was called Puppetwatch: When Large Corporations Pull the Strings.)
