HIP HIP hooray
My little girl is going to be six months old soon and I’m happy to report that, after doing practically no exercise whatsoever, I am the same weight than I was six months after my first baby was born. This is kind of frustrating since I had an elliptical trainer dropped off and placed in the center of my living room two months after my first baby was born, and then proceeded to spend 45 minutes a day on it (when I should have been napping, I’m sure).
Ah, well.
Getting by on sleepless nights with an ear infected/cold suffering/chicken poxed newborn and then chasing after a 2 1/2 year old all day long left me unmotivated to stick to any exercise regime (my focus has primarily been baking, instead).
Needless to say, while I have achieved the same degree of weight loss the second time around, I’m not super happy with the shape left behind…
The Plan
So… I’ve registered for the 10 km Sun Run as a motivator - but my running routine hasn’t been very steady so far (I’m running about once a week). My goal is to beat my last time from 2008. It took me 1 hour and 6 minutes - but that included a bathroom break… damn mommy bladder. Last year I didn’t participate because I was pregnant. This year, I want to finish the run in under an hour, so I better get training!
My plan is to work out at the gym once a week, run once a week, and then ride my bike to band practice and back at least once a week. I already walk at least 4 km with the kids on sunny days.
The hardest part of any exercise routine is actually starting it. Registering for the Sun Run has got me running again. The sunshine has got us out walking about. But nothing seemed to be able to motivate me back to the gym.
Then I received some panties in the mail from a woman I met on Twitter.
(Now there’s a sentence that I wouldn’t have anticipated writing…!) She has started her own business called Vivvos. She mentioned that her panties were made out of a breathable fabric and that runners were loving them. I can now add that they are wonderful on an elliptical trainer, too.
Here is some advice for anyone else out there feeling shy about hauling their post-baby bodies back to the gym: if you have to wear your husband’s shirt to cover that mummy tummy, some sexy underwear may make you stand (or lunge, or cycle, or whatever) a little bit taller.
Viva la Vivvos!
She sent me the ’some like it hot’ ‘bootylicious boyshorts’ and they felt great (in fact, I didn’t feel them at all - which is the best compliment). Their cheeky design made me feel good, too. And they are a triple-threat in the feel good goodness because they areĀ ‘produced using only renewable electric energy.’ Check out all of the styles at vivvos.com, or help a momtrepeneur out (she has twins) and order some from her online store.
Now I remember how I actually like going to the gym, and I’m looking forward to my next visit later this week. Viva la Vivvos!

Thanks for the comments , I am glad you like them. - and lovely that I could help out in the whole motivation business. Always the hardest part is just to start… Good on you.
Good luck with your running! I have a son who just turned 6 months, and just like you, I realize that I should have been napping rather than working out so much when he was a newborn. I am addicted to jogging strollers, however, and LOVE to cart around my son and daughter (3 yrs.) with me on my runs. Stop by sometime at http://www.achristianmommy.com.
Hey! It’s been a while. Thanks for the comment love and, most importantly, for sticking around. Getting rid of baby weight is so easy for some (just ask any Hollywood star) and quite impossible for others (just ask me, my ‘baby’ is 16) no matter the effort. I’ve been running, cycling, ellipticaling my butt off. Or so I thought. I get home and it’s still attached.
